Highgate Revival Bathroom
PROJECT BRIEF

A reimagined 1960s apartment bathroom, balancing retro texture and contemporary restraint. This renovation gently weaves the old and new, with terrazzo references, layered lighting, and a reoriented layout designed for modern living.

Tucked inside a 1960s one-bedroom apartment, this bathroom redesign was all about creating flow—both in function and feel. The rest of the home had already been renovated with a sensitive blend of traditional and modern aesthetics, and the client wanted the bathroom to follow suit while solving a few long-standing layout issues.

A FOCUS ON DETAIL

The original green terrazzo thresholds throughout the home became a conceptual anchor. We echoed this material memory in the soft green hues of the 3D retro tiles, and again in the handmade “Artichoke” mirror from Blend Concrete in Geebung.

The main brief? Move the washing machine out of the kitchen to make way for a dishwasher—without compromising on the sense of space in the small bathroom. This meant a full reorientation of the layout, including the installation of a drop-in glazed titanium tub, which gave us more flexibility with plumbing.

The new bathroom counter continues the visual language of the kitchen—featuring marble mosaic with walnut trim. Porcelain and chrome fixtures keep things timeless, while a playful floral sink skirt tips its hat to a more traditional era.
