Ganges Kitchen
PROJECT BRIEF

This apartment kitchen transforms a closed, inefficient layout into a connected and highly resolved galley space designed for cooking, entertaining, and daily ritual. A restrained material palette of stainless steel and timber is brought to life by a richly coloured, hand-glazed tiled splashback. Taking inspiration from 1950’s senibilities and kitchen details, the project is contemporary yet feels anchored somewhere in the past and offers a warm welcome to all those that use it. Layered lighting and bespoke joinery elevate both function and atmosphere. The outcome is a kitchen that balances precision with warmth and personality.

A FOCUS ON DETAIL

Materiality plays a central role in the project’s identity. Departing from the client’s initial inclination toward timber benchtops, the design introduces five-millimetre stainless steel surfaces with a softly patinating orbital finish.

This choice not only supports the client’s passion for baking through durability and ease of maintenance, but also establishes a subtle nod to mid-century kitchen environments—reinterpreted in a contemporary context. The integrated stainless steel sink further reinforces this seamless, utilitarian elegance.

We are very grateful to have found Dave to design our kitchen. He engaged with us to understand our use of the space and aesthetic preferences (taking into consideration existing furniture and our future plans) and came up with some great solutions to address the challenges in our space.

We now have a functional kitchen that serves as a statement piece while still blending seamlessly into our living and dining space. Having lived in and used the kitchen for over three months now we can confidently say we wouldn't change one thing!
